Dunedin Rhododendron Group

Welcome to the Dunedin Rhododendron Group

The Dunedin Rhododendron Group was formed in 1970 and today rhododendron enthusiasts and novices are among our members but, above all we are enthusiastic gardeners, keen to gain and share knowledge with other gardeners.

The high quality 'Bulletin' which we publish annually consists of articles written by local and international specialists, book reviews and summaries of our garden visits during the year.

Our interesting and stimulating garden visits during spring and autumn are eagerly anticipated by members. While rhododendrons are our main focus, trees and shrubs associated with rhododendrons are also of great interest.

The Dunedin Rhododendron Group produces an annual plant list which is only available to members. From this list members may purchase rare and choice rhododendron hybrids and species not widely available to the public. There is also an extensive range of associated plants not easily sourced.

During the winter months we hold a series of lectures held monthly on rhododendron related topics. During these evenings members have the opportunity to interact with each other and avail themselves of our library which specialises in rhododendrons and associated plants.

Tannock Glen

Tannock Glen is maintained by the Dunedin Rhododendron Group situated at Torridon Street, Opoho, Dunedin.

A large number of rare species collected from the wild, plus superlative local hybrids can be seen from the gravelled paths through the three acre site.

Mature trees and unusual shrubs complement this magical woodland garden overlooking Otago Harbour.

Please refer to the map on our Contact page to find this hidden treasure.
